Gardens come in all styles, sizes, and themes, and there are no hard and fast rules for the gardens we select. Whether created by the homeowner’s hands, a professional landscaper, or in many cases, a combination of both, we look at a number of criteria – the selection of flowers, shrubs, and trees; the use of stone and other hardscaping; waterfalls, ponds, and fountains; unique cultivars and the use of native plants; creative touches of art. Does the garden’s design answer a particular challenge, such as privacy from a busy street or successfully blending wooded and cultivated areas? Are there special collections of a particular plant? All of these considerations and more go into the selection process.
