AAF&G now accepting grant applications for 2011-2012
Community projects related to horticulture & the environment eligible

Area groups and non-profit organizations involved in horticultural and environmental educational programs or related community projects are invited to apply for grant and scholarship funds from the Ann Arbor Branch of the Woman’s National Farm & Garden Association (AAF&G). The application deadline is November 30, 2011.

"One of the great joys of being involved in Farm & Garden is the ability to provide financial support to worthwhile organizations and projects," says Dianna Samuelson, AAF&G president. "There are so many dedicated groups working to reconnect people with the natural environment through gardens and farms, or to educate people about preservation and sustainability. We welcome all applications that meet our mission, and look forward to learning more about the projects through the review and selection process."

Since 1946, AAF&G has distributed close to $500,000 in grants and scholarships. Monies are raised at the Ann Arbor Garden Walk(tm), held annually on the second Saturday of June.

Congratulations to Tappan students & Agrarian Adventure!

Ann Arbor Farm & Garden has long been a supporter of the Agrarian Adventure program at Tappan Middle School, and we were thrilled to hear this news -- on June 9th & 10th, salad greens grown and harvested by Tappan's seventh-grade students were served in Ann Arbor Public School lunchrooms! According to Agrarian Adventure, this is the first time a managed contract food service provider has served school garden-grown food in the state of Michigan.

The students harvested more than 150 pounds of lettuce, and 50 bunches of radishes for classroom sampling, all of which were grown as part of their science curriculum this spring.

Congratulations to all! Find out more about the Agrarian Adventure at Tappan Middle School here.
