Presentation:
Join your AAF&G friends as we learn about, "Attracting and Supporting Insect Diversity in your Garden ”
We' will explore the why (from pest control and pollination to backyard birding), the what (what insects are there already and how can I tell?), and the how (which flowers attract which pollinators and how can I create winter homes?).
Speaker: Sheila Schueller, Ph.D., Lecturer IV, UM School for Environment and Sustainability
Sheila completed her MS and PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan, and is currently a Lecturer and Academic Program Specialist at UM School for the Environment and Sustainability (SEAS), where she teaches graduate level courses in Ecology, Conservation, and Restoration. She has served as an Instructional Consultant for the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching and as Assistant Director of the Ecosystem Management Initiative, including work as an adaptive management consultant for various organizations. Her research has focused on pollination and herbivory of invasive plants, as well as the ways human landscapes, from agriculture to green infrastructure to backyards, support biodiversity. In all endeavors she seeks to integrate academic activities with the real-world data needs and sustainability challenges of natural resource planners and managers.
