Take Native Garden Design to the Next Level
Speaker: Mike Weis, owner of Kalamazoo-based native plant landscape company Dropseed! Native Gardens and Ecological Restoration. Mike also works seasonally for Hidden Savanna Native Plant Nursery and volunteers as an ecological steward for Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy and Stewards of Kleinstuck. Mike is also on the executive and program committees for Kalamazoo Area Wild Ones and a board member of Stewards of Kleinstuck. He is also the representative of KAWO for the Asylum Lake Preserve Council.
Description: Many gardeners have been adding native plants in their yards and flower beds. More native grasses, shrubs and trees are evident these days. So how can we take our yards and gardens to the next level of “native?” Mike Weis suggests a “new” approach called Garden Ecology. This type of landscaping is purpose-driven, designed to connect our human habitat with nature. Learn how to dig deeper into “native” from Mike at our public meeting on Saturday, April 11 in the Matthaei Botanical Gardens auditorium.
Members of the public are invited to attend the program for a $15 admission fee. All funds support Ann Arbor Farm & Garden’s annual garden-related grant and scholarship awards. Please register online by Thursday, April 2 at midnight.
AAF&G members may attend the presentation at no cost. Please register online by Thursday, April 2 at midnight.
