About this event

Summer Camp: Growing Future Gardeners
Come learn how Camp Michigania created a community garden space to benefit their campers.

Presentation Overview:
With Kelley Stearns at the helm, Camp Michigania has created and grown a gardening program that aims to inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts. Through collaborations with local indigenous educators, farmers, and University of Michigan partners, Kelley and the camp team strive to build a community garden space that is accessible, educational, and builds belonging. In this presentation, Kelley will outline how the team got there, what they are currently implementing, and their plans are for the future.

Speaker:
Kelley Stearns, Associate Director, Camp Michigania at Alumni Association of the University of Michigan
Kelley is Camp Director at University of Michigan’s Alumni Camp Michigania. She is also a mom and enthusiastic gardener. An alum of MSU & U-M, she splits time between her homes in Ann Arbor and Camp Michigania (on Walloon Lake), where she enjoys spending time with family, learning about new plants, and exploring the outdoors.

Note on menu option changes:
There will be a change in menu options for our luncheons at City Club this year beginning in September.  Instead of our typical buffet, we will be offering three plated menu options each month for you to choose from.  There will always be a vegetarian option available and the price will remain the same at $22.  The options each month will be listed on our website.  Make your selection and proceed to the checkout as you normally would.  We will have a printout of the choices that everyone made in case your choice slips your mind.

Upon entering the City Club, cards with your menu choice will be available for you to pick up. Please take this to your table with you and place it on the table.  This will enable the servers to be sure to serve the correct meal to you.
